March 3: Hinamatsuri

chirashi sushi

It’s Girls Day in Japan! It’s a holiday where girls get together and eat certain dishes, and drink a type of sake. It’s a great reason to get together and have a mini dinner party. This year, our friend offered to make us some chirashi sushi which is one of the traditional dishes. And it’s just so appropriately pretty and full of color. To highlight the day, we placed our hina dolls on display on our dining table. (We normally have these displayed on our bookshelf but superstition says that you’ll never get married if you don’t put away your hina dolls on the day after Girls Day… Take that as you wish.) And we chatted the night away. Being girls!
