March 13: Kouign Amann

kouign amann

Have you had this heavenly pastry? It’s a kougin amann by Dominique Ansel Bakery which opened several months ago in SoHo. It’s just sooo yummy! Nice crunch on the outside and the inside is like the most delectable croissant. It has just the right amount of sweetness and is mainly made of butter, flour, and sugar. It originates from Brittany in France (I want to go visit the home of this pastry!). The chef, Dominique is someone who’s worked as the pastry chef at Daniel for a couple years.  That’s super star status in my opinion. I was counting down minutes for this bakery to open and it was well worth the wait and totally worth getting excited over! Though I must say…. the cannele de bordeaux wasn’t the best thing on his menu. Dare I say mine were better?
