Do you know what this is? People in Miami by the beach are familiar with this seasonal fence yearly. They are fences protecting sea turtle eggs! Marine biologists spot the tracks of a turtle to know if a turtle came to the beach to lay its eggs (on average it’s about 110 eggs per nest!). Then they keep watch over several weeks to make sure the eggs hatch and the babies go back to the sea. I wasn’t able to see a turtle lay eggs since it tends to happen at night. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to see the hatchlings! This year there’s a nest right in front of our condo! Good luck, baby turtles!!

この囲いなんだか分かりますか？海辺によく行くマイアミの人間は毎年のことなのでよく知っています。これは海亀の卵を守っている囲いなんです！海洋生物学者の人達が砂の上の亀のトラッキングを観察していて見つけるとその周りにこの様な目立つフェンスを建てるのです。大体一回に卵110個ぐらいあるらしいです。そこからは卵がかえるまで何週間も毎日観察です。何年も卵を産みに来てる亀さんに会わないかなと思っていても通常夜中らしいので未だに見た事ありません。今年は家の目の前にこの巣があるので海亀ベビーたちが海に帰って行くの見れないか超期待！がんばれ〜ベビーたち！
